Renée Buchanan is an artist attempting to share the beauty of the natural world through original oil paintings. After graduating with an art degree she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and began a series of roles from graphic designer to archaeologist. During this time she honed her skills as a painter.
In the spring of 2023 she discovered a passion for painting en plein air and began to focus on landscape painting. She now lives and creates in Cincinnati, Ohio attempting to find beauty in oft-overlooked spaces.

And Then She Walked On Ahead

The love of my life, Emily, died on January 17th, 2024. She lived to at least 15 and filled every one of our days with joy. On our last walk together I was struck by the luminous grass under a pale blue sky. She may have walked on ahead but she will always be in my heart. This painting was done as a memorial to her. May it remind me that she waits for me in The Field to welcome me home.
Sticks and Stones

This humble plein air piece marks a turning point in my art practice. Although it may seem unremarkable, it represents a significant moment where my technique leveled up. Painting the small sycamore tree growing out of a beach of rounded rocks on the river’s edge was a challenging endeavor, with the intricate details of the rocks and leaves pushing my skills to the limit. Despite the difficulty, everything clicked into place, making this piece a milestone in my artistic journey.
