Artist’s Statement
Artifice
In my landscapes, I strive to capture a representational depiction of the scene before me. Yet, I am acutely aware of the interpretive nature of art and abstraction where the quality of light and color affects our mood, and every brushstroke becomes a blend of reality and personal vision. This technique underscores the idea that authenticity can be constructed, much like the identities we navigate and the stories we tell.
All art manipulates the viewer by presenting scenes that blur the lines between the natural and the constructed.
Authenticity
My artistic journey is an attempt to synthesize opposing fundamentals through an exploration of identity, transformation, and of natural spaces within and without us. This practice mirrors my path of authenticity and self-discovery, challenging the boundaries of what is seen and what is felt.
The design and composition of each painting are crucial in conveying this tension. By skilled manipulation of the boundaries of the picture plane, the interplay of light and shadow, and the use of color, I guide the viewer through the inner landscapes of emotion.
